Frequently Asked Questions

What is a word unscrambler?
A word unscrambler takes a set of scrambled letters and finds all valid English words that can be formed from them. It's an essential tool for Scrabble, Words with Friends, Wordle, and crossword puzzles — surfacing words you might never think of on your own.
How do I unscramble letters?
Type your letters into the input box and hit Unscramble. You can include a ? wildcard for any unknown letter — just like a blank tile in Scrabble. Results appear instantly, sorted by Scrabble point value.
What is the difference between American and British English dictionaries?
The American dictionary (TWL / NWL) covers the official North American Scrabble and Words with Friends word list. The British dictionary (SOWPODS / CSW) includes additional words used in UK and international Scrabble tournaments. Selecting Both gives you the widest possible results — every word accepted by either dictionary.
Can I use this as a Wordle helper?
Yes. Set both Min Length and Max Length to 5, use Starts With or Ends With for letters you've confirmed, and add a ? wildcard for each unknown position to narrow down your next Wordle guess.
What does the wildcard ? do?
The ? wildcard represents any letter of the alphabet, exactly like a blank tile in Scrabble. For example, SCRA?BL finds all words you can make with those letters plus one unknown letter.
How are results scored?
Every word is scored using standard Scrabble letter values (A=1, B=3, …, Q=10, Z=10). Results are sorted by total score by default so you always see the most valuable plays first. Switch to Word Length or A–Z using the Sort By filter.
What are some tips for finding high-scoring Scrabble words?
Focus on using high-value tiles: Q (10 pts), Z (10 pts), X (8 pts), and J (8 pts). Learn two-letter words like QI, ZA, JO, and XI — they're short but powerful near bonus squares. Prefixes like un-, re-, and suffixes like -ing, -ed, -er also help you build longer words from common letter racks.
